Creeds and Other Concepts

Okay, so I was thinking what else I could put up on this site. And it occurred to me that most of the stuff I have up here, while it definitely reflects me, in the sense that it grew inside my head (frightening thought, that), leaves a lot to the imagination. So I figured I'd make a page that has things that I believe to be true.
I'll put up more of them, by and by, but I thought I'd start with some basic principles that I think I try and live by:
- It's better to be roughly right than precisely wrong.*
(but being precisely right is the proper goal)
- It's better to fail through maintaining your principles than to succeed by abandoning them.
(but it's best to succeed while standing on your principles)
- It's better to be wrong for the right reasons than to be right for the wrong reasons.
(although it's obviously better to be right for the right reasons)
but...
- It's better to do the right thing for the wrong reasons than to do the wrong thing for the right reasons.
(but try to do the right thing for the right reasons)
